| So, here's the Millicent recommendations post that is entirely too short and will be entirely skipped over by the majority of my friends list. I know it took a ridiculously long time to create compared to how brief it is, so my excuse is...uh...um...look! Something shiny! *hides* In case it isn't obvious, this is an ongoing project. If you know of a Millicent story or essay that I haven't included here, please direct me to it. I might not necessarily add it (I'm dictatorish that way in only adding things I like) but I will take a look. Essays: 2 "And Millicent Bulstrode's no pixie." by The Girls of Slytherin and Hogwarts by Fanfiction Gen: 6 Scrabble by Summary: The Slytherins play. Who knew Scrabble was a wizarding game? Characters: Millicent, Draco, Pansy, Blaise Quote: Bulstrode smirked at the other girl and nodded to the score. She might not go in for the flashy moves, like Malfoy, but she understood strategy, and that's why she always won. It also helped that her bag technique was legendary. Even Professor Snape, a former intra-House champion himself, had expressed his admiration.regimes. The game was therefore taken very seriously. Being Millicent Bulstrode by Textualsphinx (Abandoned WIP, Gen, R) Summary: Millicent Bulstrode's only sin, Apart from being a Slytherin, Is to look like the kind of masculine hag No Gilded Youth would want to shag. So I'm making her a HEROINE. Characters: Millicent Quote: They used to burn women like me; down on the village greens where kids play tag and ducks go quack-a-quack in the pond. Don't believe that rubbish they tell you about witches enjoying it and not really dying. That was only in the Middle Ages. By King James' time the good men of the Church had got wise to that. They started to condemn you in twos. One to die, one to betray. Siren by Summary: Millicent struggles with what it means to be the ugly duckling. Characters: Millicent, Pansy Quote: I want to kill her, but like a good little Slytherin, I laugh as if she'd just said the wittiest thing ever, rather than insult my admittedly generous size. No one ever shows true emotion here and sometimes it's exhausting trying to keep up with the Machiavellian intrigue that permeates this House. Truth be told, I've always thought I'd have made a better Gryffindor – I just don't have that streak of meanness that makes a proper Slytherin - but I'm not stupid enough to admit that in this den of vipers. Within Closed Fists by Summary: Of the heroes and demons we create from other people. Ginny Weasley traverses cloudy frontiers and encounters diaries, beanstalks, and clenched fingers on a Hogsmeade afternoon. Characters: Millicent, Ginny Quote: And she did; it was easy to play into people's preconceptions, impossible to break away from them. So people reveled in her vulnerability- lips flapping over poisonous and hurtful whispers designed to prick at her dark, thick armor. She was a luscious target, huge and ungainly and perfect for practice with darts and bloody words. She was obviously a bad seed, an example of someone 'gone bad', her arm of a certainty burning cold with evil fire. She was everything that was wrong with the wizarding world today; inbreeding gone awry- just look at her arms and legs, her thick ribcage and heavy jaw. Fall On Your Knees by Summary: Even people like Millicent have stories to tell. Sometimes, they're not very pretty stories. Characters: Millicent, OFC Quote: From her very first years she looked older than she was. At age two adults she met were surprised that she couldn't read, they remarked to her mother that she must be having an awfully hard time in school, that she was quite immature for her age. At age three she could threaten the neighbourhood boys with a squashing and this meant something. She was strong and fast and she loved to run with her arms stretched out. No one could catch her, no one could even keep up. When she was older, her favourite dreams were ones where she ran, where she was chased, because she knew she could always outrun anyone. Slytherins Are Sexy by Katorina (Complete, Gen, PG-13) Summary: It's not easy being green - Millicent and Pansy struggle with their house's expectations. Warning: character death Characters: Millicent, Pansy Quote: Pansy always wears the stylish robes, the ones people have to special order and custom fit to drape perfectly across a slender shoulder, down a trim waist. You order from the "women's" section of Madame Malkin's schooldays catalogue, robes that are large enough to cover whatever odd bulges an only-growing-outward girl might have. You take another bite of breakfast and try to hide the fact the Pansy's words hurt - that just looking at Pansy hurts. Het: 4 Grown Ups by Summary: Growing up is lonely. So is losing someone you love. Two unlikely people find they have more in common than they realised. Characters: Millicent, Harry, Pansy Quote: She was taller, heavier and stronger than most other kids her age, and that didn't change as she grew older. She would never be pretty, or even attractive, but there was something striking about her dark eyes, heavy black hair and Amazonian frame that meant she could never be overlooked, and that suited Millicent just fine. All the pretty girls were completely wet, anyway. As Good As It Gets by Summary: There are some things that scare even Gryffindors. Millicent Bulstrode is about twelve of them. Characters: Millicent, Neville, Dean Quote: Neville opened it hesitantly, reminding himself that he'd survived far worse than a note from a girl, even if said girl was a. a Slytherin, b. several inches taller than he was, c. rumored to have put a sixth year Hufflepuff in the hospital wing when she was a third year, and d. a Slytherin, which was important enough to count twice. Then he read the note, and he wasn't so certain about that any longer. He shoved the parchment at Dean, stammering slightly as he asked, "This is a Hogsmeade weekend, isn't it?" Convergence by Summary: Understanding is discovered between two outsiders. Characters: Millicent, Neville Quote: "Run along, little Gryffindor," Millicent said testily. She was nothing like Longbottom. He was a hapless fool that was good for nothing but being a bumbling idiot, who let others walk over him. She had heard rumors concerning last year's incident, the one where Lucius Malfoy was arrested and the Dark Lord's return was confirmed by the press, but she was positive that Longbottom's name had been mixed in by accident, just like he had undoubtedly been sorted into the house of bravery and courage by accident. Why Weren't We Able by Summary: N/A Characters: Millicent, Fred Quote: Jealousy filled her with acute self-loathing. It made her hate herself, and him. He made her tighten and break. He made her writhe and struggle and fight until her flesh turned red from exertion. An over-taxed mind forced Millicent to look away. There were schoolgirl whispers that she couldn't forget, and the mirror behind the bar was laughing at her. Femmeslash: 14 What She Hears by Summary: Wherein a bit of mutual history is discussed and Millicent is not that precocious. Characters: Millicent, Hermione Quote: They had several more run-ins in the next year and a half or so. Most times, Millicent simply couldn't stop herself from slamming Granger into the walls whenever they ran into each other in the hallways between classes. Sometimes, when Granger was alone, Millicent was rewarded with another set of whimpers. More often, Potter or Weasley or both would glare and threaten to hex her, and she'd miss hearing Granger's complaint. She began to enjoy the way Granger would gasp and pale when she saw Millicent approach. Once, just to mess with Granger's mind, she simply ignored her and walked straight past, not even brushing against her. She snuck a backwards glance and saw Granger standing in the middle of the hallway, staring at her in puzzlement. But confusing Granger wasn't nearly as enjoyable as hearing her whimper just so, and so it was only the once that she tried that trick. Handful of Hollow by Summary: A character-driven romance, revolving around an extremely uncommon pairing. Millicent Bulstrode and Hermione Granger star in this slow-moving tale of their sixth year at Hogwarts... Characters: Hermione, Millicent Quote: Millicent sat towards the rear of the Slytherin table, her back turned to the tables of the other three houses of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Leaning her chin heavily upon her fist, she watched the Sorting Ceremony with unmasked boredom. As a sixth-year student, the ceremony no longer particularly held her interest. Like Harry Potter's annual brush with death, like the tired competition between the four Hogwarts houses, like Professor Binns' unvarying lectures in History of Magic, the unchanging rituals of the return to Hogwarts had become monotonous. excuse me but by Summary: Let me tell you a love story. Characters: Hermione, Millicent Quote: Fifth year and hours past midnight, striding over grass beside a mouth that wouldn't quit -- on about habitats, conservation, and persecuted flocks driven out of their native homeland. She stepped in speckled white and black droppings and didn't miss a beat, one stomping foot in front of the other. The Strangest Conversation by Astrid M. Blackcoat (Complete, Millicent/Hermione, PG-13) Summary: Features books, amusement, alcohol, snogging, baked beans, and insanity. Characters: Millicent, Hermione Quote: 'And you seemed adamant that you should stay,' retorted the bigger girl. 'So you stayed and we ended up having a decent conversation, scary enough on its own, and revealing things about each other that our best friends probably don't know. Now I ask for company and all you want to do is leave. Is this a Gryffindor conspiracy?' Millicent narrowed her eyes. Symbiotic by dulcinea (Complete, Millicent/Hermione, R) Summary: Love comes in many forms. Characters: Millicent, Hermione Quote: And she has spent her entire life enveloped in questions: foolish insecurities which drove her to work that much harder, rise that much further above her peers, only to discover that they had whisked the ladder away from beneath her feet. Always something wrong with her, and always the same frustrated tears when they refuse to tell her exactly what that something might be. For once, she wishes she could just glare down at them with Millicent's icy contempt and continue on her way unscathed. The Whole Night by N. Marie (Complete, Millicent/Hermione, PG-13) Summary: Millicent doesn't go to clubs. Characters: Millicent, Hermione Quote: Millicent wasn't worldly or extremely smart, but she was well aware that she was anything but beautiful, and she'd grown to be okay with that so she didn't starve for those words like her friend. Millicent's towering height and thick build had never blossomed into something more womanly and graceful, like her mother had so often promised. She was still awkwardly built, still too large and still too rough looking for her own good and for the good of others too. Her face had never softened, either. She was still jagged angles and sharp features, but she couldn't imagine looking any other way anymore, even if she wasn't the prettiest thing to walk on two legs. A lifetime of looking like herself left her with something akin to fondness and she was as satisfied as she could be, being Millicent Bulstrode. Peeved by Summary: A rowdy poltergeist, two female Hogwarts students in the prefects' bath, house rivalry and a quietly amused Rowena Ravenclaw... featuring harsh words, not quite so harsh words, and a distinct lack of clothing. Characters: Millicent, Hermione Quote: Dark amusement bubbled up in her, and she allowed her lips to curl into a nasty grin while throwing her bra on top of the pile of clothing. Granger made a point of looking away, which was slightly insulting. Millicent's chest had turned into the sole impressive part of her body during the last year - well, Crabbe and Goyle at least had stated so with candid admiration. She had even noticed Malfoy ogling once or twice, which had led to sharp words with Pansy in the Slytherin girls' dorm. Until Millicent had pointed out that Pansy had been looking, too. That had shut her up. Holding Back by Summary: Millicent has a crush. Hermione has to study for her NEWTS. This gives us the incredibly true story of two girls not mutually in love. Characters: Millicent, Hermione Quote: It was obvious - a Gryffindor in times of war, it meant engagement and desperate efforts to aid even when aid was not an option. It was different for me. All of this time I had been sitting back there and watching. It's not that I didn't see how others tried, because I miss very few things. But I did nothing. Playing a game is hard when you disapprove of the rules. Aggression by Summary: story of questions, lies, and anger. Characters: Millicent, Hermione Quote: She remembered trying to push Millicent away but it was a useless action, as beneficial as trying to push down a brick wall. The Slytherin pulled her into a headlock and she remembered smelling the strong scents of cat and juniper on Millicent's robes as her face rubbed close. She remembered feeling helpless because, despite the sniggerings in the girls lavatories of the Slytherin being a fat hag, Millicent was strong and had a considerable amount of muscle. The girl would not be budged if she didn't want to be. Fire and Ice by Summary: Millicent always thought she'd be Draco's -- not that she loved him; it was about the power. In fourth year, Pansy steps in, and Draco has no need for Millicent, who's upset and looking for power anywhere. Characters: Millicent, Pansy Quote: For Pansy had never seemed like ice. Millicent always thought that Pansy is hot and fiery, given to heated silent blasts, liable to burn in all circumstances, and not even dragonhide gloves can protect you. Nothing can, and no-one. Millicent knows that too well. For in Millicent's first year, she was one of Draco's group. Fast, firm friends - she and him and Vincent and Gregory - and nothing could part them, and Draco was their leader. And to the leader goes the best, Millicent always thought, and she looked, half-anticipating, toward that inevitable day when she, the only girl in their group, would be Draco's. Pretty Girls Make Graves by Fidelis Haven (Complete, Millicent/Pansy, PG-13) Summary: Millicent Bulstrode has been, and always will be, Pansy Parkinson's best friend. Pansy cries, Millicent angsts, Draco smirks and isn't even in it. Characters: Millicent, Pansy Quote: Yes, Pansy tapped right into her malicious streak, and vice versa, and from then on they were together always, never tiring of each other, became known as vindictive little bitches, the sting in Slytherin's tail, so to speak. Pansy's tongue might be quicker and sharper than hers, but Millicent relished it and played right up to her – thank Salazar Potter was in their year, providing such an easy target with his gang of exceptionally dull friends. At first she couldn't give a flying fuck about Potter, Granger, Weasley, any of them, but when she made Pansy laugh she felt really, truly happy. She feasted on the appreciation in her friend's eyes when she managed to say something particularly cutting. Beautiful by Summary: Sometimes, Pansy is beautiful. Millicent never is. Characters: Millicent, Pansy Quote: Millicent is never beautiful. She's too tall, too heavy and solid to be anything near pretty, or even attractive. She's destined to be one of those women people call "handsome," or worse, "stately," like somebody's ancestral home. More suited to hanging portraits than posing for them. Players by Summary: Misfits have at least that much in common. Characters: Millicent, Luna, Pansy, Draco Quote: Luna, who had dropped to her knees and was scrabbling her books back into her arms, stopped and looked Millicent straight in the eyes. "How'd you ever make it into Slytherin, Bulstrode?" Her tone was an uncanny reproduction of Millicent's own voice, although nearly an octave higher. "You've got less subtlety than a mountain troll." Cigarettes and Lakeside Conversation by Summary: What, exactly, do two girls discuss during a lakeside smoke break? Why not everything? Characters: Millicent, Ginny Quote: The other girl took a long drag, and slowly blew out the smoke. "Millie," she replied. There was another pause, as they both looked out over the lake, then Millie spoke up again, using the same vague offhand-ish tone Ginny had just used. "I saw you during the Christmas break -- were your parents too busy trying to save the world to spend Christmas with you?" | ||||||||||
